We at Mobile Mobile Nigeria are welcoming you to an info session on Mobile Monday.
This info session will provide details on what we are about, what you stand to gain from being a member and the opportunities that abound from coming to our regular meetings.
It was yet another #MoMoNigeria event this month on the 25th, and it was a great time. The topic of discussion was the means by which new e-commerce businesses could overcome the problems that are faced by all the players in the ecommerce space.
The problems are the issues that either break the business models of these companies or helps them learn their lessons and move on to become stronger Businesses in the future in the future.
In Nigeria, E-commerce is a relatively new market that is gradually catching up. This growth is spurred by the wide availability of Payment cards offered by various providers (Interswitch, Visa, Mastercard and E-Tranzact) but even with this, people still don’t trust e-commerce completely because of the policies that online shops have when it comes to returns and shipping.
On the 28th of January, Industry professionals gathered for Mobile Monday Nigeria to hear about the Technology Outlook for Nigeria in 2013. The audience listened to five speakers and engaged in a Q&A session after each speaker came up.
Lanre Folarin and Mayowa Owolabi of Mobile Monday were there to give the opening remarks and to moderate the event.
Technology over the years has vastly improved the lives of people globally. In Nigeria, Technology has improved various sectors of the economy and business and has influenced processes in ways that were previously unimaginable.
The event started with Akinbobola Akinola (@bobolaakinola) giving an overview of what the day’s event was about and kick off fully with Gbenga Sesan laying the groundwork for the discussion.
The Silicon Valley myth
Gbenga began his presentation by first clearing up the myth that people had concerning Silicon Valley which was that “The US Government was not involved in the development of Silicon Valley”. He stated that without the policy guidelines that the US Government, the Silicon Valley Ecosystem would not have existed and thrived the way it has.
Policies have always been a key part of decision making. Without them, there would be no way of regulating resources in Countries. It is an essential part of nation building and it helps to shape industries in countries. The Nigerian National Nigeria ICT Policy document gives details on the various policies that will help shape the IT Industry in Nigeria. It also aims to create policies that will promote an enabling environment for investment in the IT industry.

The next Mobile Monday event will take place on the 17th of December, 2012 and it will focus on the National ICT Policy that is being drafted and how it will affect businesses that are operating in the IT Sector.
Electronic payment mechanisms have improved in the last few years due to improvements in the technology that is involved. With the emergence of payment gateways like Interswitch and E-tranzact, payments via ATM cards have increased (Interswitch claims that there are now 26 Million e-payment cards out there) and this has in turn boosted sales on various e-commerce websites and at various brick-and-mortar stores that use POS (Point of Sales) machines to collect e-payments.
