The next Mobile Monday event will take place on the 17th of December, 2012 and it will focus on the National ICT Policy that is being drafted and how it will affect businesses that are operating in the IT Sector.
Electronic payment mechanisms have improved in the last few years due to improvements in the technology that is involved. With the emergence of payment gateways like Interswitch and E-tranzact, payments via ATM cards have increased (Interswitch claims that there are now 26 Million e-payment cards out there) and this has in turn boosted sales on various e-commerce websites and at various brick-and-mortar stores that use POS (Point of Sales) machines to collect e-payments.

Recent studies have shown that Africans access majority of their online services on mobile. The statistics show that people spend more time on their mobile phones than watching TV or using their computers. This is due to the portability of mobile devices and the ubiquitous nature of mobile technology.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Innovation Foundation (AIF) recently announced the call for the 2013 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). As innovators/entrepreneurs are not highly profiled on most development agendas, IPA acknowledges and encourages their endeavors. The prize honours and encourages innovative achievements that contribute toward developing new products, increasing efficiency or saving cost in Africa. All entries must be submitted before October 31st 2012, 24:00 GMT.
The Mobile Monday Event is an initiative of Mobile Monday (http://www.mobilemonday.net) that is organized in over 100 countries around the world. The event aims to bring together developers, visionaries and observers in the Mobile Technology (not limited only to Mobile Phones) sector.
Mobile Monday Nigeria aims to do the same in Nigeria through the monthly meetups organized every last Monday of every month at a venue that is communicated via Email and social media channels (MoMo Nigeria on Facebook, MoMo Nigeria on Twitter).
The September edition of the #momonigeria event started with Adeyemi Fowe (Nokia and Mobile Monday Nigeria) giving an overview of Mobile Monday. He explained what the vision of Mobile Monday is and the role it plays in the technology ecosystem in Nigeria.

E-commerce is fast becoming the de-factor standard for setting up business quickly and with minimum physical requirements. More and more E-commerce stores are springing up by the day. At the July edition of Mobile Monday Nigeria’s meet-up, attendees had the opportunity of listening to key influencers in the e-commerce space. The event was great because it exposed the various success factors in E-Commerce and also the drawbacks of running an online store in Nigeria.
